So it's been a few weeks since I posted here, which is probably not good, I've been busy tho, and I'll update you here, but I don't think anyone is following this anyways!...so in three weeks I completed my creative lettering course, well I have a few more pieces to do but I'm happy with it! I have designed a "thank you for support" postcard I'm going to have printed, thanks to that lettering course! I have had a second map published...I'll post the link below...super stoked about that!! and it wasn't anything exotic, just illustrated a map of one of my favourite motorcycle routes! I am so honoured to be chosen to be on the website, so many great illustrators & artists on the site! and to be featured amongst them is incredible. Here is the link to the site (and my map) but this site is worth a tour, hundreds of great illustrations! http://theydrawandtravel.com/illustrations/10324-rural-riding-in-renfrew-ontario-canada New art supplies for the month, a Lamy Safari fountain pen, medium nib & black & blue ink!! haven't even cracked the seal on that yet, and finally after looking for at least 2 months, I located some white gelly roll pens...YAY so I can do more contour drawings, still waiting for the watercolours to arrive. And this week I'm getting back to an acrylic painting, and hopefully an inktense piece! I admit, I have been playing 'hookey'...we finally got some nice weather & I've been motorcycling & enjoying the outdoors. I think my hand-writing is okay, a bit messy, and getting worse, but I kind of like it as well, it's a mix of cursive & printing; but after doing the map course, I decided I should try to learn some lettering techniques, 'tricks' as it were. So as luck would have it, another course was offered on sale (hey, I'm on a very limited budget); so I jumped at it. It's a 4 week course, I started it last week & I'm on week 4 already, enjoying it, and it's making me think differently, and I think this will help with the map making & all aspects of my art! Already planning a 'thank you postcard' for my customers, and a poster/card of a favourite quote! I like trying new things, learning is a part of creating. I think from now on Monday will be "map" Monday...going to start a new one today, but won't be finished today! Anyway, here are a few of my 'homework' assignment sketches; doodles!
I needed a break, from my usual 'art'...I'm in a rut, and decided to try something new to spark the creative fire, so I took a "let's make a map' course. Well it was certainly eye-opening, the first 3 days left me frustrated & doubtful, then I decided I was just over-thinking everything...so decided to just go for it! I decided to map out our vacation spot last year, and because I love it there, that transpired into a pretty good map for my first attempt!! I love the results, and the best part was, it was selected to be displayed on the "Theydrawanddravel.com" website. I'll attach the link!; made my day, I loved my map, but didn't know if anyone else would; here's the link if you want to have a look at my map, it's under recently added, and please check out all the other beautiful maps on this site!!
map size is 432mm X158mm/very small to work with...I thought so anyway, I'll be doing more! http://theydrawandtravel.com/illustrations/10249-iles-de-la-madeleine-canada-there-is-no-place-like-it |
